PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a device by cutting preliminarily the butt end faces of preceding and succeeding strips prior to welding. CONSTITUTION:A gage bar 8 which positions the preceding strip 6a and the succeeding strip 6b is provided and a carriage 11 mounted with a working head 2 and a cutting tool 10 is disposed on guide rails 12a, 12b. The cutting faces of the strips 6a, 6b are pressed to the gage bar 9 and are then clamped by clamping devices 4, 5. The ends of the strips 6a, 6b are cut by the cutting device 10 after the bar 9 is lowered. The cutting device 10 on the carriage 11 is retreated and thereafter the moving clamp 5 is moved to butt the strips 6a, 6b, then the strips are welded by the head 2. The device is simplified and reduced in size as there is no need for constituting the cutting device integrally with the welding device. |
