PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in the quality of a reproduced picture plane and a vertically synchronous disturbance of an image after insert editing recording by cutting off an editing signal at a specific time after issuing an insert erasing command during recording azimuth through a rotating head different in track width. CONSTITUTION:A D type FF8 responses to an insert signal at H level and a recording control switch 2 is turned on by a Q signal reversed to the H level. While, every 1 field, by a switching pulse SWP repeating H, L; heads Ha, Hb narrow and wide in width are alternately selected through a change-over switch 3. An editing image signal is inserted through an overwriting by the agimuth system. When the signal INS goes to L and the insert erasing is commanded, the signal SWP from a circuit 7 synchronizes with the H at reversing, a Q output of an FF8 goes to L, the switch 2 is turned off, the editing image signal is cut of synchronously with recording start by the head Ha, a track narrow in width is not erased in a final editing recording, and S/N is not lowered. As a result, deterioration in a reproducing picture plane and vertical synchronous disturbance of the image are prevented.
