PURPOSE:To form a vertical magnetic film having a large Kerr effect and to obtain the title recording medium with large S/N by forming a film consisting of PtMnSb Heusler's alloy fine particles on a base body having fine protrusions. CONSTITUTION:Fine protrusions 2 (800Angstrom ) are formed on a polymer substrate 1 by sputter etching with use of a high-frequency sputtering device. Then after the inside of a chamber is evacuated to a specified atmospheric pressure, gaseous argon is introduced, and then a film consisting of PtMnSb Huasler's alloy particles 3 is formed on the substrate by sputtering. In this case, a vertical magnetic film can be formed because an alloy is formed on the protrusion 2. Accordingly, a vertical magnetic film having an easy magnetization axis vertical to the film surface can be formed, and a recording medium having a large Kerr's rotating angle of >=1 deg. and hence having excellent regenerative S/N can be obtained.
