PURPOSE:To decrease the man-hour required for ranking by measuring a height from the bottom of a jig to a gap of a write/read magnetic head chip and ranking the final finish size obtained by subtracting a difference between a measured value of the depth of the magnetic head chip measured in advance and a prescribed gap depth from the height by means of a prescribed numeral interval. CONSTITUTION:The jig adhered with a floppy head assembly is stored in a cassette 16, a production ejected from the cassette 16 is moved to the 1st station of a stage 18 by using a grip 17 and the stage 18 is turned by 90 deg. and moved to a measuring device 19, where the height H from the bottom of the jig to the gap of the write/read magnetic heads is measured automatically. A processed value G obtained by subtracting a prescribed gap finish depth Gd1 from a gap depth Gd2 of the write/read magnetic head measured in advance before processing is inputted to a microcomputer 20, where the value of (h), h=H-G is operated. The stage 18 is turned further and moved to a position ranked by a size of 5mu each depending on the value (h) and stored.
