An annular piston, annular control valve, liquid propellant gun system, has a dual angle injection mechanism to provide both combustion chamber and bore gas requirements with a single injection control valve. The dual angle feature assures a stable combustion zone. The projectile is fixed by a frangible threaded tube 27 to a stub case 28 housing a booster charge 30, firing of which causes hot gases to pass into the combustion cave 120 forcing piston 38 forwardly to increase the pressure in pumping cavity 118 causing a belleville washer 206 to close passageway 77 and valve 36 to move forwardly, uncovering bores 126, 128, the aft-inclined (126) of which pass liquid propellant into the annular cavity surrounding the projectile. As pressure increases, a flexible lip 26a on the firing band 26 of the projectile is deflected to pass liquid propellant aftwardly of the projectile into combustion cavity 120. When the projectile has uncovered bores 128, liquid propellant is sprayed through these bores into the gun barrel 8, which propellant then burns due to contact with hot combustion gases. <IMAGE> |
