PURPOSE:To improve the abrasion resistance of a catalyst, by a method wherein an acid is added to a pseudoboehmite slurry to adjust the pH thereof to 2.0-6.0 and a specific amount of crystalline aluminosilicate and clay mineral are mixed with said slurry before performing spray drying. CONSTITUTION:An acid is added to a pseudoboehmite slurry to adjust the pH thereof to 2.0-6.0. Subsequently, crystalline aluminosilicate and clay mineral are added to the aforementioned slurry, so that 10-50wt% of a final catalyst composition is constituted of alumina occurring from pseudoboehmite, 5-70wt% thereof is crystalline aluminosilicate and 50wt% of less thereof is clay mineral, to be uniformly mixed therewith while the resulting mixture is sprayed and dried to prepare a catalyst composition for the catalytic cracking of hydrocarbon. The pseudoboehmite slurry is obtained by a method wherein aluminum sulfate and sodium aluminate are reacted in an aqueous solution and the formed alumina hydrogel is heated and baked.
