PURPOSE:To form a head device of edge position control type suitable for both ways recording and reproducing by providing a pair of tape edge position control section installed at intervals slightly larger than the tape width above and below the slit part and plural slits between them in vertical symmetry. CONSTITUTION:For instance, when a tape runs to the left facing the face 1, the lower edge of the tape runs controlled by an edge position control section 3, and recorded by slits in upper half position. When the direction of running of the tape is reversed, and the rape runs to the right, the upper edge of the tape is made to make slide contact with the edge position control section, and recorded by slits in lower half position. Then, upper and lower halves of recording tracks on the tape are formed at equal distance from respective edge. Consequently, a tape and a tape recorder not influenced by dispersion of tape width, i.e., having interchangeability can be obtained. |
