PURPOSE:To manage proper service life of lots of printers by using a controller to count integratingly number of print characters of a printer started by a host and local print characters corresponding to each printer. CONSTITUTION:Since a print data of a printer is subject to conversion processing by a program of a processing unit 6 without fail, a counter for print character number corresponding to the printer is assigned to a main storage of the processing unit 6. Further, a counter area is provided to a floppy disc 10 being a nonvolatile memory. Every time a print cause addressed to a printer takes place, the print number is counted by using program processing of the processing unit 6, the number is added to a corresponding count area on the main storage and written in a corresponding area of the floppy disc 10 as a copy. Thus, the accumulated print character number at each printer is recorded so as to attain service life management of printers.
