PURPOSE:To speed up the processing of graphic information by detecting data available fro approximating independently the same straight line or curve to a kinked line. CONSTITUTION:When the start of the processing is specified, an operation enters an overlapped area detection processing. An overlapped area detection processing part checks whether or not all kinked lines in the area is completely processed. If the processing is not terminated, an outline area extracting part 4 reads data on the next kinked line in an original data memory part 1, and extract the outline area to store it in an outline area memory part 2. The overlapped area detecting part 5 reads data on two kinked lines in the outline area memory part 2, and checks the presence or absence of the overlapped area. If said part is detected, a kinked line existence overlapped area detecting part 6 checks whether or not two kinked lines exist in the area concerned. If they can be obtained, the presence or absence of the boundary of the overlapped area and the intersection of kinked lines is checked. If the intersection is not obtained, the overlapped area and data on the kinked line included in said area are stored in an intermediate data memory part 3.
