PURPOSE:To obtain easily modified carbon black having high structure, by introducing a specific amount of a gas to a specified position in the upper stream of a position where formation reaction of carbon black is finished. CONSTITUTION:For example, a coke even gas and air to burn a fuel are introduced from a combustion gas inlet 8 to a furnace, and a raw material hydrocarbon (e.g., creosote oil, etc.) is fed from the raw material inlet pipe 6. Steam having a volume ratio (standard state) to a by-product gas of carbon black formation of 0.05-1.0 is introduced through the steam inlet pipe 11 attached to a position which is in the downstream 170mm from the feed point of the raw material and has 5-100msec average retention time and the steam provides a gas flow with turbulene, to give the aimed carbon black.
