PURPOSE:To obtain desired KANJU (Chinese character) inscription without updating a dependent word dictionary and correcting the same input by specifying the position of the desired paragraph punctuation to correct the KANJI inscription having an erroneous paragraph punctuation. CONSTITUTION:An independent word having partially the same alongside Chinese character followed by an independent word retrieval start point in an input KANA (Japanese syllabary) string is retrieved from an independent word dictionary 3. In the same manner, a dependent word having partially the same alongside Chinese character after a point indicated by a dependent work retrieval start point is retrieved. The decision as to whether or not the detected independent and dependent words can comprises a paragraph is made. A KANJI inscription part 6 displays a paragraph string KANJI inscription retrieved by a paragraph divided writing part 5, and a paragraph punctuation position specifying part 7 specifies the punctuation of the displayed paragraph string. The dependent word including the specified position and the partial KANA string are stored in a paragraph divided written data memory part 8, stores the stored partial KANA string as the updated data of the dependent word dictionary and updates said dictionary 4.
