PURPOSE:To obtain an Al alloy for a cylinder block having superior dimensional accuracy, strength and machinability by adding specified percentages of Si, Fe, Cu and Mg to Al. CONSTITUTION:An alloy consisting of, by weight, 10-20% Si, 0.55-0.75% Fe, 2.5-4.5% Cu, 0.15-0.25% Mg and the balance Al with inevitable impurities is manufactured. By casting a cylinder block using the Al alloy, a casting of high quality free from defects such as cracks, shrinkage cavity and acicular precipitate is obtd.
