METHOD FOR REFORMING SURFACE FINISH OF STAINLESS STEEL PLATE

PURPOSE:To reform the finish of a stainless steel plate subjected to BA finishing to the finish equivalent to No.2D or No.2B finishing by coating an adequate amt. of a mineral oil on the surface of the steel plate and subjecting the stainless steel to a heating treatment at an adequate temp. in an oxidative atmosphere then pickling the stainless steel in a nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid soln. CONSTITUTION:The mineral oil is coated on the surface of the austentic stainless steel plate subjected to the BA finishing in a 0.1-10g/m<2> range. The steel plate coated with the oil is subjected to the heating treatment in a 600-1,050 deg.C range in an oxidative atmosphere. The steel plate after the heating treatment is subjected to a pretreatment for pickling such as molten alkaline salt treatment or neutral salt electrolytic treatment according to need. The steel plate subjected to the above-mentioned heating treatment or further the pretreatment for pickling is pickled in the solution containing 20-250g/l nitric acid and 5-100g/l hydrofluoric acid. The BA finish of the above-mentioned stainless steel is thus inexpensively reformed to the No.2D finish or No.2B finish without rolling again said plate.
