PURPOSE:To enable information to be outputted in a well-balanced manner, by a method wherein when information to be outputted in a line is divided into a plurality of groups before outputting it, the spacing between the divided information groups is automatically uniformized. CONSTITUTION:The width of each column is assigned by sequentially using character keys and a 'delimiter' key, and when inputting for all columns and inputting through the 'delimiter' key are completed, a 'setting completed' key is depressed. Thereafter, quantities of spacing between the columns are calculated from the width of each column and left and right margin positions. In this case, the content of a left margin buffer 45 is subtracted from the content of a right margin buffer 46 to obtain the total width for column layout, and the content of a length buffer 45 is subtracted therefrom to obtain the total amount of spacing in the entire output width for the column layout. The total amount of spacing is divided by (number of columns + 1) to obtain the spacing lbetween adjacent one of the columns in the range from the left margin to the right margin.
