PURPOSE:To easily exchange ribbons and printing heads by a method in which when a cover is opened, a carriage is moved to the vicinity of the central position of the printer. CONSTITUTION:In an electric circuit to control a printer mechanism, an interface 51 to input printing data, a printing controller 52 to be connected with the interface 51, a carriage feeding circuit 55 to operate the printer mechanism 56, a ribbon feed circuit 57, and a printing circuit 58 are provided, including a cover opening and closing controller 53 to control the controller 52, the circuit 55, and the circuit 57 by signals from a cover opening sensor 54. When the cover opening state is detected by the sensor 54, the circuit 55 is operated stepwise by the controller 53 to move the carriage to the center. |
