PURPOSE:To obtain stable precision by providing a proximity switch which insulates the rotating shaft of a gimbals, coupled with the cable of a pressure gauge, and its support part from each other with a gap. CONSTITUTION:When a horizontal log-shaped buoy 1 is floated on water, the buoy 1 fluctuates according to variation in wave front and the pressure gauge 8 also fluctuates through the gimbals 4 and cable 6 according to the fluctuations of the buoy 1. Therefore, pressure is measured by the pressure gauge 8 to measure the displacement of the water level. Then, the horizontal buoy 1 while moving up and down according to the variation in wave front makes a response at right angles to the direction of waves and the cable 6 is perpendicular, but the perpendicular axis of the buoy 1 rotates as tops of the waves pass. For the purpose, this rotating direction is measured by using the proximity switch composed of a magnet 9 and reed switches 10a, 10b, and 10c to measure the direction of the waves from information on the rotating direction and azimuth information on the buoy by a compass.
