PURPOSE:To obtain leather piles suitable to electrostatic flocking, by opening leather fragments in a wet state, drying the resultant opened piles at a given temperature or below, classifying and sorting the dried opened piles, treating the surfaces of the piles with a curing promoter and binder and increasing the dielectric constant of the above-mentioned piles. CONSTITUTION:Chrome tanned fragments in a wet state of about 100% moisture content are opened, and the above-mentioned opened pile raw material is dried at <=96 deg.C not to cause shrinkage and curling. The dried raw material is classified into a suitable size by means of a well-known air classifier, and sorted and classified into leather piles having a length and thickness according to the use by means of a screening classifier. The classified piles are then dipped in a 0.5-30% dilute solution of tannin to adsorb the tannin thinly on the above- mentioned pile surfaces. The piles are then treated with a 1-5% dilute solution of tartar emetic to fix the tannin on the pile. Thus, the aimed leather piles capable of increasing the dielectric constant of the pile surfaces even in the dried state, improving the lubricity of the surfaces and maintaining improved flock state are obtained.
