PURPOSE:To form ferrite by recovering ferrous hydroxide deposits and ferric hydroxide deposits both of which do not contain silica which is a ferrite reaction inhibitor from a large amt. of waste mine water, mixing both deposits, and aging the mixture. CONSTITUTION:When mine water contg. ferrous ions coexistent with silica is treated, and alkaline agent is added to the mine water to coprecipitate a part of ferrous ions as ferrous hydroxide and silica, the ferrous hydroxide deposits contg. silica is oxidized to ferric hydroxide deposits, the deposits are dissolved in an acid or strongly acidic mine water, an alkaline agent is again added to regulate the pH to <=4.0, and ferric hydroxide deposits freed of silica are obtained. The deposits and the ferrous hydroxide deposits recovered by adding an alkaline agent to the mine water contg. residual ferrous ions and from which silica is previously removed are mixed in 1:1-2:1 ratio, an alkaline agent is added to the mixture to regulate the mixture within an alkaline region, and then the mixture is aged to form ferrite. The ferrite can be effectively utilized as the material for an electric wave absorbent.
