PURPOSE:To obtain the titled magnetic recording medium having excellent traveling property and durability without deteriorating the S/N characteristic of the magnetic layer medium by incorporating a resin contg. a metal sulfonate group and a hydroxyl group and a polyisocyanate compd. as the binder component for the back layer. CONSTITUTION:A back layer is provided on the surface opposite to the surface of a nonmagnetic supporting body on which a magnetic layer is furnished in the magnetic recording medium. A resin contg. a metal sulfonate group and a hydroxyl group and a polyisocyanate compd. are incorporated into the binder for the back layer to obtain the main binder. Consequently, the dispersion of a filler is facilitated as compared with the conventional process, the back layer having excellent smoothness can be formed, and further the back layer having a high elastic modulus, a low friction coefficient, and excellent durability can be obtained.
