An internal combustion engine comprises a plurality of cylinders (15) rotationally and symmetrically arranged with respect to a symmetry axis (9), the axis (17) of the cylinders being substantially perpendicular to the symmetry axis (9). The cylinders (15) are delimited on the side of the symmetry axis (9) by means of covers (19). Alternating pistons (21) sliding inside the cylinders are connected to an output shaft (11) turned to the side thereof towards the symmetry axis (9) through a rod mechanism (13) or optionally by means of a rocking mechanism arranged laterally with respect to the cylinders (15). The covers (19) of the cylinders (15) are provided with openings (53) connectable to a central gas exchange channel (51) by means of a valve device arranged in the central part between the cylinders (15). Said internal combustion engine has relatively reduced dimensions and a simple gas exchange control. |
