In a non-dispersive photometer, in which infrared rays penetrate a receiver which contains a gas absorbing these rays, there is provided in a receiver a polyvinylidene fluoride film which, upon irradiation, acts both pyroelectrically and piezoelectrically, the pyroelectric effect being used to determine the reference signal, and the piezoelectric effect being used to determine the measured component. In doing so, the piezoelectric effect results from the opto-pneumatic effect of the film on which the pyroelectric effect is also produced.
