PURPOSE:To omit a special processing at a data processing device by installing an unrecognizable symbol sending part which sends a code of an unrecognizable symbol when the recognition can not be executed at a hand-writing character recognizing part. CONSTITUTION:When one hand-writing character is inputted from a hand-writing character input part 1, the information necessary for recognizing is sent to a hand-writing character recognizing part 2, and the recognizing processing is executed. Next, it is judged whether or not the recognition can be executed, and when the recognition can be executed, the code of the recognized character is sent to a recognizing character code sending part 3 and the recognizing character code is sent to a data processing device 5. When the recognition can not be executed, an unrecognizable symbol, for example, a '?' code is sent from an unrecognizable symbol sending part 4 to the device 5. The device 5 displays the character or the symbol '?' of the sent code on a display screen as it does. By the device, even when the recognizing result is not decided at a data processing device side, the recognizing result can be confirmed on the display screen.
