PURPOSE:To extract flexibly an optional symbol string in a short time among symbol strings of non-structure by constituting a storage means with a conventional storage element being accessed with an address representing a storage location of a desired data. CONSTITUTION:When an operation mode signal 103 representing registration of a collation symbol string is applied, each output of an OR gate 330 is logical 1. Thus, an AND gate 340 connected to an output of a block decoder 320 designated by the content 155 of a counter drives in parallel all row selection lines 121 in a block connected to the gate, that is, in a designated block. Thus, parallel write to all rows in the designated block is permitted. When an operation mode signal 103 representing the collation is applied, a row selection line 121 designated by an input data 101 in a block designated by the counter content 155 is driven selectively. The device is used to drive a row selection means used for a symbol string collating device.
