A structural frame member for windows and facades comprises an outer hollow-section component of light metal e.g. aluminium and an inner hollow-section component 1 also of e.g. aluminium connected together by webs the webs being of polyester reinforced with glass fibre in such weight ratio of polyester to fibre that its coefficient of heat expansion correspond substantially to that of the metal components. The ratio may be 3:1. The adhesive securing the webs to the components 1, 2 consists of durable plastic polymeric rubber-like material, e.g. an alkaline polysulphide. A Z- shaped frame member may be formed by connecting two L-shaped components by a single web of the polyester reinforced with glass fibre. |
