Circuit for a thin-film magnetic head (1) without centre tap for magnetic recording purposes, having a read amplifier (2) and a pair of mutually parallel, earthed matching resistors (R1, R2), connected to the amplifier (2), which circuit has been improved by a third pair of switching transistors (9, 10) being arranged parallel to the matching resistors (R1, R2) in order to short-circuit the latter. In the write operating phase, a current flows through the coil (S) of the magnetic head (1) whenever one transistor of a pair of switching transistors (4, 5) has been made conductive in a way corresponding to a write signal ("0" or "1"), and one of the switching transistors (9, 10) is connected to the coil (S) of the magnetic head (1) in a way corresponding to the polarity of the direct-current potential, so that the non-active current, which does not flow through the coil (S) but through the switching transistors (4, 5), is significantly reduced. On account of the reduction of the non-active current in the switching transistors (4, 5), the operating speed of the circuit is increased. <IMAGE>
