A switching plunger (15) which is prestressed in the switching direction by means of a spring (23) is provided for operating the push-button switch (11). Said switching plunger (15) is guided such that it can be displaced longitudinally in a housing part (14) and is coupled to an operating knob (button) (16) via a continuity-preserving connection (41, 42). The housing part (14) is provided with sprung latching pawls (33, 34) which, in the quiescent position, engage behind projections (28) on the switching plunger (15) in order to lock said switching plunger (15) in this position. The latching pawls (33, 34) can be forced out of their engagement position by pressing the operating button (16) and thus release the switching plunger (15) in order to carry out a switching movement. In order to make it possible to return to the quiescent position only by deliberately carrying out a specific sequence of movements on the operating button (16), the latching pawls (33, 34) and the projections (28) have stop surfaces (35; 31) on their sides which are opposite the latching surfaces (30; 34) which interact in the quiescent position, which stop surfaces (35; 31) abut against one another in the operated position and lock the plunger (15), it being possible, however, to disengage the stop surfaces (35; 31) by means of studs which can rotate with the operating button (16). <IMAGE>
