PURPOSE:To calculate a tap coefficient setting condition by inputting a test adjusting signal to a transversal equalizer and a device to be equalized, which is cascaded to the equalizer, and measuring a distortion frequency characteristic by a distortion measuring instrument connected to an output side of the device to be equalized. CONSTITUTION:A prescribed test adjusting signal is inputted to a transversal equalizer 6 from a test signal generator 7, and inputted to a distortion measuring instrument 9 through a device to be equalized 8. In the distortion measuring instrument 9, a frequency characteristic of a distortion is measured, and sent out as a digital value of a prescribed format to a tap coefficient operating circuit 10. In this circuit, a tap coefficient setting condition is calculated, and stored in a storing circuit 5 through a controlling circuit 3. This tap coefficient setting condition is read out a tap control signal through the controlling circuit 3 from a samiel switch 4, and a tap coefficient of a traversal filter 1 is set through a D-A converter 2.
