PURPOSE:To obtain an ultra-short pulse train from a laser source by a method wherein the transmittance of DC oscillation laser light is altered outside of a laser resonator so as to produce short-time laser light. CONSTITUTION:A resonator is configurated with Fabry-perot 27. An effective mirror distance (d) is used as the palameter. In changing the parameter, the transmittance of the laser light 1a fed from a laser source 1 will be increased only when the mirror distance (d) is the specified value. If the mirror distance (d) is changed, a pulse train with lambda/2 (where lambda is wavelength) period can be obtained, however, it is practically impossible to transfer the mirror 7, 7 at the high-speed, therefore the parameter of the effective mirror distance (d) is changed by modulating the refractive index with a modulator 7 consisting of electro-optical crystal 8c inserted into the Fabry-perot. If the phase modulation width 12 is smaller than lambda, a light pulse train 13 where the light transmit twice in one period can be obtained from the output of a light pulse generator 11. When this pulse train is driven by an outside modulator 2, synchronized with a modulator 8, a pulse train 14 can be obtained from the output terminal.
