PURPOSE:To make it possible to eliminate the generation of a side fin, by inclining a fusion torch with respect to a fusion direction while inclining a side fin removing torch to the direction opposite to the fusion torch with respect to the fusion direction and further arranging the same to the rear part with respect to the fusion direction. CONSTITUTION:A steel piece 1 is transferred to the longitudinal direction thereof by a feed apparatus and a support 2a is provided to the lateral part of the transfer region of the steel piece 1. Support arms 2, 5 are horizontally attached to the support 2a in a cantilevered state, and a fusion torch 3 and a side fine removing torch 4 are attached to the support arm 2 so that the torch 3 is inclined with respect to a fusion direction and the torch is inclined to the direction opposite to the torch 3 with respect to the fusion direction and further arranged to the rear part with respect to the fusion direction. A television camera 6 is attached to the support arm 5 so as to be directed to a part where the steel piece 1 is fused. By this method, a flow detection can be performed without generating a side fin.
