<p>1,135,798. Production of alkylene dithiocarbonates. ETHYLENE-PLASTIQUE S.A. 22 Dec., 1966 [23 Dec., 19651, No. 54569/65. Heading C2C. Alkylene, aralkylene and cycloalkylalkylene dithiocarbonates are prepared by reacting an alkylene, aralkylene or cycloalkylalkylene oxide with carbon disulphide at 10-70‹ C. in the presence of a catalytic system consisting of an alkali metal halide, e.g. LiC1, LiBr, LiI, NaBr, NaI and KI, water and a co-catalyst, e.g. H 2 S, mercaptans and thioethers, alkyl sulphonium halides, xanthates, thiocarbonates, sulphides of alkali metals and polar solvents, e.g. alcohols and glycols, which are good solvents for the alkali metal halide used, which may either be added to the reaction mixture or formed in situ. Potassium glycol xanthate is prepared by gradually adding 1 mole of granular potash to 1À5 mole of glycol with the temperature held below 50‹ C. When the mixture has a thick appearance it is cooled to 10‹ C. and 1 mole CS 2 added to it dropwise. The ppt. formed is recrystallized from an alcohol-ether mixture.</p> |
