PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal head with less warpage and no white streak to be observed at joints and of low cost by using a substrate which is coated with polyimide film on a metal backing in lieu of a glazed ceramic substrate, and upon the above stated substrate heat generating resistor elements are arranged. CONSTITUTION:Polyimide resin solution is applied on a metal backing (desirably aluminum plate) 1, dried and heat-treated, forming a polyimide layer 2. Then, a tantalum nitride layer 3 as a heat generating resistor layer, a selective electrode layer 4 and a common electrode 5 are formed. Further, a heat generating portion 6 and a protective film 7 are formed, and a thermal head as the end product is obtained. |
