A composite type magnetic head comprises first and second magnetic head core halves 31, 32 made of a magnetic ferrite, a gap member 37, a first part 31a formed on the first head core half and narrowed toward the gap member by being defined by first and second curved depressions 31b1, 31b2, a second part 32a formed on the-second magnetic head core half and narrowed toward the gap member by being defined by third and fourth curved depressions 32b1, 32b2, a first film 33 of a magnetic metal material formed on the first curved depression, and a second film 34 of the magnetic metal material formed on the third curved depression. The first and second films have thicknesses equal to a desired track width at a part 38 where the films contact the gap member and form a gap of the head. Reference is made to use with high coercive force tapes, and absence of magnetic saturation in the vicinity of gap part 38. Also the boundaries between the cores and the films do not act as pseudo-gaps. Materials are specified. <IMAGE> |
