A composition contg. substd. phenylthiocarbamate of formula I [X = O, S, or vinylene ; l = m = 1-4 ; n = 0 or 1 ; R1 = hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, or alkyl ; R2 = R3 = hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, alkyl, or phenyl and α-(β-naphtoxy) propionic acid deriv. of formula II [ Z = hydrogen or halogen is a herbicide. The title composition has a herbicidal effect on Echimochloa crus-galli, Monochoria vaginalis, Rotala indica, Cyperus diformia, Scipus hotarui and Cyperus serotinus in paddy rice.
