PURPOSE:To minimize down-time of computer system by recording the information of a defective track to a cylinder outside a cylinder area used in the computer system. CONSTITUTION:The head disc assembly has cylinder areas 50, 51 used in a conventional computer system and a cylinder area recording the information of a defective track at the outside of the cylinder areas 50, 51. When the conventional computer system uses the cylinder areas 50, 51 from ''0'' to 400 cylinder, no access is fed to the cylinder area 52 exceeding the 400 cylinder. Thus, a 404 cylinder of the cylinder area 52 is a cylinder recording information of a defective track. Thus, the repair time after a format of a head disc assembly (HDA) is destroyed is minimized. |
