PURPOSE:To manufacture a piston member having high strength and heat- resistance with a specific gravity of light metal's level by mixing whiskers having a small specific gravity or long fibers in a light metal matrix. CONSTITUTION:Whiskers and fibers are compounded with light metal of a matrix to form a piston. It is necessary to set the volume percentage of whiskers in composite material within the range of 10-50%. The volume percentage of the fibers should be within the range of 20-70%. A Al-base, Mg-base or Ti-base light alloy is used for matrix. |
