PURPOSE:A catalyst component obtained by bringing an organoaluminum compound into contact with a solid composition consisting of a Mg salt of fatty acid, an ester of aromatic dicarboxylic acid, etc., showing high activity and providing a streoregular polymer in high yield when it is used for olefin polymerization. CONSTITUTION:(A) A catalytic component obtained by bringing (i) a Mg salt of fatty acid into contact with (ii) Mg carbonate or a substance containing the carbonate, (iii) a mono or diester of aromatic dicarboxylic acid, (iv) a halogenated hydrocarbon, abd (v) a Ti halide shown by the formula TiX4 (X is halogen) to give a solid composition, bringing further the solid composition into contact with an organoaluminum compound is blended with (B) a compound shown by the formula SiRm(OR')4-m (R is H, alkyl, or aryl; R' is alkyl, or aryl; 0<=m<=4), and (C) an organoaluminum compound, and used as a catalyst for polymerizing an olefin.
