1-Ethyl 6-fluoro 1,4-dihydro 4-oxo 7-(1-piperazinyl) 3-quinoline carboxylic acid is made by reaction of 7-amino 1-cyclopropyl 6-fluoro 1,4-dihydro 4-oxo 3- carboxylic acid with N,N-bis(2-chloroethyl)amine hydrochloride in equimolar amts. Reaction is in inert organic solvent, e.g. a 1-6C alcohol or mixts. of these, in presence of a 5-10% excess of sodium or potassium carbonate, at between 60 deg.C and reflux temp. The prod. is isolated and purified by conventional methods.
