PURPOSE:To provide an agent for suppressing the absorption of nutrient, by using a water-absorbing substance composed of a water-soluble resin derived from starch and cellulose or composed of said water-soluble resin and an insolubilized CMC salt, expandable by the absorption of the water-soluble food in the digestive tracts, and giving the sense of satiety by taking only a small amount of the agent. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent for suppressing the absorption of nutrient is composed of a water-soluble resin derived from starch and cellulose or of said water-soluble resin and an insolubilized CMC salt. A concrete example of the water-absorbing substance is ''Sanwet I.M.1000'' (product of Sanyo Chemical Industry Co.). The water-soluble substance is dilated by absorbing the food which is made water-soluble by the gastric or intestinal juice, and the dilated lump presses the gastric wall to give the sense of satiety and prevent the obesity. It is effective at low rate of application compared with conventional agent. Since the dilated lump has moderate elasticity and softness, it can be applied safely without causing the blockage of the digestive tracts.
