PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material or an intermediate for producing a compound useful as liquid crystal or various useful compounds, by reacting an n-alkylcarboxylic acid anhydride having many carbon atomos with a thiophene. CONSTITUTION:Thiophene is reacted with preferably an equipmolar amount of an n-alkylcarboxylic acid anhydride (e.g., propionic acid anhyride, etc.) shown by the formula (RCO)2O (R is 2-7C alkyl) in the presence of perchloric acid preferably especially in the absence of solvent, to give an n-alkyl 2-thienyl kenone(e.g., compound shown by the formula II, etc.) shown by the formula I.
