Prodn. of acrylated epoxy phenolic coating compsn. comprises: (i) dissolving a high mol. wt. epoxy resin in a water miscible organic solvent, (ii) dissolving a phenolic resin in the prodn. of step (i), (iii) adding several acrylic monomers of which at least one is an acid (iv) polymerising the acrylic monomers by heating, (v) neutralising the -COOH gps. of the acrylic monomers with an aq. amine to form a water-dilutable, storage stable coating compsn. The compsn. consists of 25-35 wt.% acrylic monomers, 40-60 wt.% epoxy resin and 30-40 wt.% phenolic resin. Pref. the epoxy resin is a glycidyl polyether and the phenolic resin contains a phenol, a substd. phenol or Bisphenol A. The compsn. is used for the internal coating of foodstuffs containers and after application is cured by heating. |
