Platinum complexes of formula (I) are new: R1=H, 1-16C alkyl, or a conventional protecting gp. (esp. benzyl, tetrahydropyranyl, acetyl, haloacetyl, benzoyl mesyl or tosyl); R2 and R3 are each Cl, Br or I, or OH, NO3, acetate, trifluoroacetate, trifluoromethanesulphonate, toluenesulphonate or perchlorate or R2=sulphate or carbonate and R3=H2O, or R2 and R3 are together the dianion of an organic acid (esp. oxalic, malonic, hydroxymalonic, succinic, maleic, aconitic, 3,6,9-trioxaundecandioic, 1,1- or 1,2-cyclobutanedicarboxylic, 3- or 4-carboxyphthalic or 3,4-dicarboxyphthalic) or together the repeating anionic unit of a polymer, esp. dextran, chondroitin or galactan sulphates, polyglutamic acid or polyitaconic acid.
