NEW MATERIAL:1,1-Diphenyl-4-isobutylamino-1-butanol of formula I and its salt. USE:It has a powerful antiarrhythmic action and is used for the circulatory system. It has low toxicity and is used by giving orally, locally or into tissues. PREPARATION:The reaction of a benzoylpropionic acid ester of formula II with, e.g., Grignard reagent gives a compound of formula III. Then, the product is allowed to react with isocutylamine in the presence or absence of an appropriate solvent such as xylene, preferably at 100-110 deg.C to give a compound of formula IV. The reduction of the compound of formula IV is effected using a metal hydride such as lithium aluminum hydride in a solvent at room temperature to 100 deg.C to give the compound of formula I.
