NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula 1 (Ph is nonsubstituted or halogen-substituted phenyl; R<1> and R<2> are lower alkyl; R<3> is 1-8C alkyl, cycloalkyl, or 3-6C cycloalkyl; n is 0, 1, or 2) or its acid addition salt. EXAMPLE:2-(2,4-Dichlorophenyl)-3-methyl-3-methylthio-1-(1,2,4-triazol- 1-yl)butan-2- ol. USE:An antifungal agent having improved antifungal activity, excellent effect in the case of continuous administration and low toxicity. PREPARATION:A compound shown by the formula 2 is reacted with a compound shown by the formula 3 or formula 4 in an inert solvent optionally in the presence of a base to give a compound shown by the formula 5. Then, this compound is reacted with a compound shown by the formula 6(M is alkali metal) to give a compound shown by the formula 1' in the formula 1 and this compound is optionally oxidized with a peracid to give a compound shown by the formula 1 except the compound shown by the formula 1'.
