PURPOSE:To attain the automatic production of a discriminating dictionary to save its man-hours, time and cost by applying size distortion processing and rotary distortion processing to the component segments of a basic pattern to give the distortion to these segments in the revolving direction. CONSTITUTION:An operator supplies a basic pattern on the screen of a graphic display 6 by indicating the end point of the pattern with a cursor or a light pen. Then the operator designates the maximum and minimum magnification ratios MA and MIN and the rotary distortion angle N through a keyboard. A pattern production part 5 receives the basic pattern, the magnification ratios and the distortion angle to store them in a memory and also sets the magnification ratio of the size distortion. In a rotary distortion processing mode, the rotary distortion is applied to each quadrant with the center of a given defined as an original point and according to a designated rotary angle. Thus a rotary distortion pattern is produced. While a shift distortion pattern of each size distortion pattern is produced by the shift distortion, i.e., a kind of rotary processes.
