An optical curve follower (2) scans the line drawing (3) located on a bench (1) by means of angle coders and feeds the corresponding digital scanning values to a computer (4), where they are processed and stored. A perforated strip (6) is prepared via a sheet writer (5). This perforated strip (6) is processed by the control section (8) of a control unit (7) and thus serves for controlling a two-axial coordinate bench (9) with a power unit (10) for controlling a laser (11). A pressure-sensitive adhesive film (12) consisting of a PVC film or polyester film (13) and a siliconised protected paper (14) is placed onto the two-axial coordinate bench (9) and cut by the laser (11). The cutting depth of the laser (11) is here adjusted such that the protected paper (14) is not severed. The bench (9) is moved by the control unit (7) in such a way under the laser (11) that the desired writing stroke is formed. Owing to this arrangement, the expensive use of milled or etched tools is unnecessary. It is also no longer necessary to prepare a separate tool for each writing stroke. <IMAGE>
