An apparatus for processing and cutting to length stocks (stems, trunks) has a processing station where suitable cutting-off points on the stock (6) are to be determined and information about the cutting-off points is fed to a computer unit, and a cutting-off station where cutting-off, controlled via the computer unit of the stock at suitable cutting-off points by means of a cutting-off member (23) is to take place. Gripping devices (17) and lifting devices (14) are provided at the cutting-off station (12) in order to grip and lift the stock during cutting-off and hold it via stock-supporting members (7). The stock-supporting members consist of a longitudinal conveyor (7) which continuously extends through the cutting-off station (12) and past the same, in order to carry cut-to-length stock parts away from the cutting-off station. The apparatus has a cutting-off member (23), such as a chain saw, and a control unit is provided which controls the movement of the longitudinal conveyor (7) in steps by means of information from the computer unit, so that the longitudinal conveyor advances, at each step, the stock by a distance corresponding to the stock length to be cut off, and so that the longitudinal conveyor is stopped when each processing point is precisely in front of the cutting-off member, in order to grip, lift, cut off, let down and release the stock, while the conveyor is stationary. <IMAGE> |
