PURPOSE:To form a magnetic recording medium having an excellent service life characteristic by providing the 1st protective film laminated on a thin ferromagnetic metallic film and the 2nd protective film having the immersion potential than the immersion potential of the 1st protective film. CONSTITUTION:A high-polymer film such as polyester film is used for a nonmagnetic base body. A ferromagnetic metal such as iron is deposited on the nonmagnetic base body to form the thin ferromagnetic metallic film and thereafter the 1st protective layer is formed thereon by coating a soln. mixture composed on a higher fatty acid such as stearic acid and the amine thereof on said film by dipping, etc. A higher fatty acid, etc. such as stearic acid are coated on the 1st protective layer by dipping, etc. to form the 2nd layer at the formation of the 1st protective layer. The 2nd protective layer has the immersion potential lower than the immersion potential of the 1st protective layer. More specifically, the protective layer is formed into the two layers and the immersion potential of the upper 2nd protective layer is made lower than the immersion potential of the lower 1st protective layer and therefore the corrosion resistance is improved and the service life characteristic is improved.
