So that a colour picture can be captured simply, but including all subjectively necessary elements, an axially symmetrical projection (4, 5) is interrogated using a Z-type scanning raster (7, 8). Each of the two symmetrical projections (4, 5) is scanned using a four-fold interlaced line raster. To avoid creeping lines, the picture signals are repeated before the picture is reproduced. The same picture recording can be repeated, for example, line-by-line for video films for home use, and picture-by-picture for studio reproduction. <IMAGE>
