PURPOSE:To prevent an optical disk from the drop of storage efficiency by unitedly arranging a non-volatile storage means in an optical disk storage case, storing directory information in the storage means, and when the stored volume reaches a prescribed volume, storing the contents of the storage means in a directory area of the optical disk. CONSTITUTION:When the optical disk 1 is loaded into the device and the directory buffer 13 is connected to the buffer 13 through connectors 14, 20, final address data EDA, file No. data NOF and directory information DDC are read out from the buffer 13 and stored in a directory storage part 34. When data are continuously transferred from an external device, the direction information up to the sector address indicated by the final sector address EDA is read out from a directory area DR of the optical disk 1 and stored in a directory storage area DDR of a directory storage part 34. The directory information DDC is read from the buffer 13 and stored in the final sector of the DDR of the directory storage part 34.
