PURPOSE:To aim at making a multi-cylinder engine compact with low vibration, by arranging two engine cylinders having their crankshafts horizontally extending in parallel with each other, adjacent to each other in the direction of the crankshaft, and by synchronizing both crankshafts through a chain type synchronizer device. CONSTITUTION:An internal combustion engine E preferable to a motor-cycle has crankshafts 21, 22 which are extended in parallel with the longitudinal axis of a vehicle body and spaced by an equal distance from the same axis on both sides thereof, and which are coupled to pistons 41, 42 through connecting rods 31, 32, These pistons 41, 42 are slidably incorporated, respectively in engine cylinders 51, 52 arranged adjacent to each other. A transmission chamber 35 is formed in an engine body 6, extending from one head cover 381 to the other head cover 382 and passing between both engine cylinders 51, 52. A synchronizer device 36 for rotating both crankshafts 21, 22 in synchronism with each other is incorporated in the transmission chamber 35 and is coupled with an output shaft 43. |
